South Sudan: ECTN Certificate

All maritime shipments destined for South Sudan must be covered by a mandatory Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN). This certificate is a legal prerequisite for legal entry and customs discharge at all border points.

Compliance Checklist

Mandatory Status:
The ECTN is an absolute requirement for all import, export, and transit cargo, regardless of value or transport mode.
Validation Protocol: Shippers must initiate the procedure at the port of loading; given the rigorous nature of South Sudanese regulations, validation should be secured well in advance of the vessel's arrival.
The Transit Advantage: For shipments arriving via Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, or Djibouti destined for South Sudan, you generally only require the South Sudan ECTN.
Operational Risk: Operating without a validated certificate exposes your supply chain to hefty administrative fines, significant demurrage, and the potential denial of customs clearance.
